An emotional day

The end-of-day cheer
Private flying is a selfish hobby. It uses up disproportionate amounts of the earth's resources, has very little point and can cause noise intrusion to others.

We are always conscious of this and try to do things that benefit the wider community wherever possible.

Yesterday was the second time that a group of private pilots gathered together at Bourn airfield in Cambridgeshire to donate pleasure flights to a group of badly burned children who attend a nearby lakeside camp.

Some of the children do not make comfortable viewing. Many of the worst cases wouldn't join the group photograph above, being conscious of their looks. However it was very rewarding for all of us. Each of them got at least one flight in a fixed wing aircraft and one in a helicopter. Most enjoyed it enormously

I'm away for a while now. Back in mid-September

Old-fashioned jeweller closes on Thursdays. As he always has
Angel Hotel. Charles Dickens stayed here
Even an old town can't avoid mobile (cell) phone shops
Just some contrasts in retail architecture as I walked to the sandwich shop, here in Bury St Edmunds, for lunch

Dickens is a famous writter, isn't he?

And , how about the sandwich

Yes, spot on Moko. He wrote things like Oliver Twist, A Christmas Carol and Nicholas Nickleby. His name has been absorbed into the language as we now speak of 'Dickensian' conditions if we talk about old-fashioned poverty and exploitation of the poor by employers and rulers. Fri 22-Aug-2003 22:34

A Norfolk field

Hi Voxpop,

A sort of top end amateur digicam (Nikon 5700). This was the best of about 8 shots as the rainbow grew and then diminished. I have slightly increased the colour saturation in Photoshop to try and make it look more as it appeared, but other than that and a little cropping-in to get rid of some unwanted foreground detail, that's how it was.

My journey to work. I cleaned the windscreen but it is quite heavily tinted so some of the shots look a little blue.

Oh yes, some of the roads aere superb. Every weekend sees plenty of serious bikers tearing up the roads. Deer can be a bit of a bummer, but I still wish I hadn't sold my GSXR about seven years back Tue 19-Aug-2003 08:44

So you drive to work every day, how long does it take your time? Is it far from the town?
You know, it's quit different here, I have to stay in the city with lots of people. That's terrible!

Moko, I used to live in cities (Liverpool, London) and I really don't enjoy being that close to people and that far away from green fields and fresh air. So I chose to live in the East of Britain, in an area that is very rural, and very beautiful, with huge skies overhead.

But this means that I have to travel 23 miles (I think that's about 40 km) each morning and each evening.) That takes me around 45 minutes each way. I would really prefer my work to be closer to my home, say 10 miles, so that I could use my bicycle instead of the car.

He certainly wasn't

I was leaving for work and was intending to get him out of the bedroom and downstairs for the day. But he gave me such a 'killer' look that I didn't dare. Just took a picture and left him there He was much happier than.

Aviation - Last evening and this morning

At the end of the day, the Colt viewed from the hangar
The other end of the aviation food chain
Got a chance to use my aircraft to travel to a client meeting yesterday. Nice to have the tax man paying for some flying for a change. Then this morning, on my way to the office I just had to stop and snap the huge C5 freighter taking off from my friendly local USAF base

It must be eciting to Fri 15-Aug-2003 15:32

Cropredy Festival 2003 - The Pit Crew's view

And the same stage as we see it from our encampment
The sound tower and Simon's fan club

Cropredy is a music festival for ageing folkies in the middle of Oxfordshire, England. Myself and a few friends work there as security between the audience and the stage.

Here's a few images from a scorching hot weekend.

It is just a pity that the music isn't actually to my taste. The ear defenders we wear come in useful

So interesting! Fri 15-Aug-2003 15:30

Chris had never flown the aircraft across the Channel, so I sat in with him for a totally enjoyable day trip.

Perfect weather, left at 9:00am, back at 6:00pm with a rucksack full of Sancerre and a slightly overfed feeling

Is there customs at your airport Thu 14-Aug-2003 13:04
Posted by:Elan
The UK is formally part of Europe so we don't insist on outbound customs to a fellow European state. This means we can take off from our little grass strip and fly direct to France with no formailities. We must, however, land in France on a Customs field.

Returning we have to leave from a Customs field and must notify UK customs of our intended arrival back at the strip at least four hours prior to that landing. This can be done by fax.

Easy.
